RECAP: Region 1A Summer School 2025

A WEEK OF LEARNING, SOLIDARITY, & GROWTH

ONAWAY, MI – We are excited to share highlights from the Region 1A Summer School, which took place from Sunday, July 27 through Friday, August 1, 2025, at the beautiful Walter & May Reuther Family Education Center at Black Lake.

This year, over 200 delegates gathered for an inspiring week focused on building committee skills, embracing diversity, and strengthening union awareness. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, collaborative discussions, and networking opportunities designed to empower and equip members for greater involvement and leadership within their locals.

The sessions provided practical tools and strategies for effective committee work, while special emphasis on diversity encouraged open dialogue and fostered a more inclusive union culture. Union awareness workshops reminded us of our history and the importance of solidarity in facing today’s challenges.

Beyond the classroom, delegates enjoyed the scenic Black Lake environment, building new friendships and reinforcing a sense of unity that will carry forward into our locals and communities. A cornerstone of this year’s summer school was solidarity building—woven throughout the week in both structured sessions and informal gatherings. Through group activities, shared meals, participants strengthened bonds across locals, fostering mutual support and a deeper understanding of collective action. Many shared personal stories of overcoming challenges together, highlighting the transformative power of standing in solidarity. These experiences not only inspired attendees but also equipped them with renewed commitment and practical strategies to bring solidarity home and energize their union work.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of Region 1A Summer School 2025! We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this week reflected in our union’s ongoing work and future events.
