What is SolidWeb?
SolidWeb 3.0 is is a powerful, free website-building tool that was developed as a part of the AFL-CIO’s UnionHall program. UnionHall is the AFL-CIO’s website management platform. For over 13 years, the UAW and AFL-CIO has provided an easy-to-use website system designed specifically for UAW locals. We’ve continued to make updates and improvements to those systems to meet the rapid changes in technology and evolution of best practices around website design. To that end, in 2024, we decided to upgrade SolidWeb to the latest version of UnionHall called SolidWeb 3.0.
SolidWeb 3.0 makes a number of big improvements to the previous system including:
- Better performance and security.
- Improved (yet familiar) user interface for site admins.
- Greater flexibility in how your website can look.
- Private sites for access to give locals the option to host member-only content.
Ongoing UAW and AFL-CIO training and support for site administrators and handling of all software updates.
Who is SolidWeb for?
SolidWeb (Union Hall) is designed for regions and local unions that want to have a consistent website experience for their locals. Hundreds of local unions from over a dozen unions use UnionHall for their website. More than 100 local unions also use the SolidWeb (UnionHall) platform for their own websites.
Why Should I Use SolidWeb?
SolidWeb (UnionHall) is specifically built to meet the needs of the labor movement. Not only are websites easily customizable–based on the needs of the UAW–but they’re built to be easy to manage. Each site created in SolidWeb (Union Hall) is responsive, meaning it looks great on mobile devices and desktops, and everything in between. New features to the platform are also sourced from feedback from the UAW and locals, meaning the tool evolves to meet the changing needs of your local union.
But it’s not just about the platform. In most cases, there is little to no cost to use the tool for locals and the UAW and AFL-CIO offers free ongoing training and support for site administrators and handles all software updates.
What is Action Network?
The Action Network is a progressive online organizing platform. Any local union can become an organizer by signing up with the form below.
With that account, organizers can publish actions to the public, such as a petition to an elected official, an event RSVP form for a meeting the organizer is holding, a survey form to collect answers from a community, a fundraising form to collect money for an upcoming campaign, or a letter campaign to have activists email elected officials. Use it to send out emails to your members about contract or bargaining updates.
As other activists take action and fill out the forms an organizer has published, those activists are opted in to the organizer’s email list. Using our built-in mass mailing tool, organizers can contact that list of activists whenever they want, and download the data on their list too!
In short, along with SolidWeb, the Action Network includes everything you need to organize online, assisting in online communication for your local union.
Note: To sign up for Action Network, you must also have signed up for SolidWeb. Don’t have SolidWeb for your local? Don’t worry! You can sign up for both with the form below.
