RECAP: 2025 Local Union Officers Institute
BUILDING STRONGER LEADERS FOR A STRONGER UNION
ONAWAY, MI – During the week of October 5-10, more than 170 delegates from across the regions gathered for the Local Union Officers Institute, a dynamic week of education, leadership development, and solidarity.
The institute featured a variety of impactful workshops designed to strengthen the skills and confidence of local leaders. Core classes included Administrative Responsibilities of Local Union Officers, while elective offerings gave participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in areas such as Appeals and Union Elections, Effective Union Meetings, and Building a Powerful Contract Campaign.
Throughout the week, delegates also participated in Leadership Roundtables led by the UAW Legal Department, providing valuable space for open discussion and problem-solving on real issues faced by local officers every day.
A highlight of the institute was a plenary session with UAW President Shawn Fain, who engaged directly with delegates in a question-and-answer discussion.
The Local Union Officers Institute is more than training; it is a space to strengthen our union by growing leadership. Here, participants gain tools, resources, and connections to better serve their members and communities. Whether you are new to your role or an experienced leader. Your presence matters.
Together, we move our Union forward.
