UAW Organizes against OMB Rule on Federal Funding
The Trump Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) proposed rule attempting to overhaul the government’s process for providing federal financial assistance is a serious escalation in their attacks on the working class. UAW members across the country rely on federal funding to do their jobs, and beyond jeopardizing their livelihoods, this latest attack creates a slush fund the Trump administration can use to continue to undermine our democracy. The proposed regulations would impose unprecedented political oversight and new restrictions on federal grants, enabling the Trump administration to ignore scientific evaluation and instead arbitrarily deny or cancel more than $1.5 trillion in annual federal grants or steer grant funds to their political allies.
The UAW submitted a comment calling on the Trump Administration to rescind these proposed regulations. UAW members have been organizing to make their voices heard, submitting over 500 comments in opposition to the proposed regulations, and calling on elected representatives in the House and Senate to oppose the rule and ensure that critical federal programs can continue without obstruction.
