RESOURCES FOR VETERANS

Please find resource links for Veterans below:

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) – DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year. The organization provides more than 670,000 rides for veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with more than 292,000 benefit claims annually. In 2016, DAV helped attain more than $4 billion in new and retroactive benefits to care for veterans, their families and survivors.

Foundation for Women Warriors – Formerly known as Military Women In Need, the organization was created in 1921 as Housing Subsidies Program for widows and mothers of fallen service members. In 2005, Military Women In Need began its focus on women veterans. Today we continue to serve women veterans and their children as Foundation for Women Warriors.

Veterans Administration – The mission of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs is to fulfill President Lincoln’s promise, “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan,” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans.

Veterans Crisis Line (formerly the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline) – The Veterans Crisis Line is a free, confidential service available 24/7/365 for Veterans, Service Members, and their loved ones even if they are not registered with the Department of Veterans Affairs or enrolled in VA healthcare. Veterans, Service Members, and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1 or chat online at www.VeteransCrisisLine.net to receive support from caring, qualified Department of Veterans Affairs responders – many of whom are Veterans themselves – who are specially trained and experienced in helping Veterans of all ages and circumstances through any emotional or personal crisis.

Wayne State Office of Military and Veterans Academic Excellence (OMVAE) – Dedicated to providing high quality and comprehensive student veteran support in an environment that fosters respect, commitment, and academic excellence. OMVAE provides direct and liaison services for all education and administrative matters pertaining to our student veterans, their families, and the military community at large.

Wounded Warrior Family Support – Our mission is to provide support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations. The families of our casualties suffer in many ways: some financially, some psychologically.
