RECAP: 2025 Member Mobilization Institute

Members gathered on a day of action at the Member Mobilization Institute
“Knowledge is power. I’m ready. I hope everybody here is ready too. I know they are because there was no choice but to take something from this week. I needed it. I’m emotional because I’m excited! Being here has made me better.”
Jalon HoganRegion 8 - Local 276
“The Union is the only force that stands against management’s exploitation of us, the workers. The Union allows us to demand dignity. The Union is for all of us!”
Olga KarounosRegion 9A - Local 2325
“I challenge you all to never forget your voices. Take that conversation, listen to your coworker’s story, remind people why we wear red on Wednesdays.” “
Sara NoonanRegion 2B - Local 2000
“That’s the biggest part of this: showing up and being in the fight! Being a member of the Union is not a spectator sport. There’s only one path forward, and that’s working-class people standing up together!”
Shawn FainInternational Union, UAW - President

ONAWAY, MI – What happens when passionate UAW members from across the country gather to find power and purpose in our Union?

Magic. Momentum. Mobilizing.

The Member Mobilization Institute held on Sept. 28-Oct. 3 at Black Lake was more than a conference; it was a launchpad for building worker power. Delegates arrived with curiosity and commitment and left with toolkits, strategies, and the determination to get involved. We didn’t just talk about mobilization; we lived it.

From the opening session to the final action, the energy was electric. Drumbeats, song, art, and theatre infused our activities with creativity and joy, while storytelling gave voice to the meaning behind our experiences. Deep dives into internal organizing, legislative battles, and planning powerful actions were paired with hands-on practice that transformed knowledge into skills and confidence that won’t be shaken. Social media and photography training equipped us to start mobilizing immediately, and historical and modern examples of organizing, messaging, and civil rights activism reminded us of the power we hold. Conversations with union siblings from near and far offered new awareness and growth.

Everything we learned came together in a powerful Day of Action as delegates planned and led a rally that was by turn emotionally moving, funny, and energizing, while inspiring solidarity and action in the fight for an economy that works for the working class.

President Shawn Fain shared his enthusiasm, encouraging every UAW member:

“The impact of what we do or don’t do right now will be felt for future generations.

This is our moment! So, let’s get united. Let’s wear a red shirt every Wednesday because when a whole worksite full of people all show up united with a red shirt on, it tells the bosses we’re united.

Go to your Union meeting, take part in it, join a committee, support an organizing drive somewhere, support a contract campaign somewhere.

You know, every battle we’ve ever won throughout history was successful because we stood together. Being a member of the Union is not a spectator sport. Let’s get involved, let’s get united, and let’s get to work!!!“

President Shawn Fain

He’s right! This week was just the beginning. Now, we’re bringing it home to our locals, communities, and workplaces. Our passion, knowledge, skills, plans, and accountability support are the framework for building power in our Union.

And after this Institute, we’re ready! We’re kicking it off with actions by each delegate at the local level, mobilizing every UAW member to RISE UP and to WEAR RED ON WEDNESDAYS as we show the world our solidarity!

Because solidarity is more than just a word or a feeling. It’s a force that can change everything.

So, let’s keep the momentum rolling. Let’s organize. Let’s mobilize. Let’s win!
