Region 1A have elected Mark DePaoli as the new Region 1A Director.
In a historic decision made during a special convention held on September 12, 2025, delegates of the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) Region 1A have elected Mark DePaoli as the new Region 1A Director.
DePaoli succeeds Laura Dickerson, bringing decades of union experience, leadership, and a strong commitment to the values of solidarity and justice for working families. His election comes at a pivotal time for Region 1A, which represents tens of thousands of active and retired members across southeastern Michigan.
“I am honored and humbled by the trust placed in me by the delegates and our members,” said Director DePaoli. “Together, we will continue to fight for fair wages, safe workplaces, and dignity on the job. Our union is strongest when we are united, and I am committed to building that unity every day.”
Region 1A covers a diverse range of UAW-represented workplaces, including auto manufacturing, parts suppliers, academic institutions, and public sector employers. DePaoli’s leadership is expected to bring renewed energy to organizing efforts, member engagement, and contract enforcement.
The special convention was convened in accordance with the UAW Constitution to fill the vacancy and ensure uninterrupted leadership for Region 1A.
