Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock addressed the Special Bargaining Convention on themes of union democracy and member leadership:

“The officers on this stage are not the heroes of the UAW, or the sheroes of the UAW. We have been put here by the membership to chart a new direction based on our experience and ideas. But it is the membership’s determination to change the direction of the UAW that now guides this union.”
