Irvine, CA and Detroit, MI – After over two weeks of a historic strike, Academic Researchers and Postdoctoral Scholars at University of California have reached a tentative agreement.
“Our members stood up for improved wages and working conditions that truly reflect their value to the University of California system,” says UAW President Ray Curry. “The tentative agreement reflects the real contributions our members make to the success of UC.”
Academic Researchers and Postdoctoral Scholars will remain on strike while they await their contract ratification. Academic Student Employees and Student Researchers still do not have an agreement. Student Researchers made a compensation proposal to UC twelve days ago. UC has not yet responded.
“This strike has garnered support from all quarters,” says UAW Region 8 Director Mitchell Smith. “It is time for UC to meet the needs of all UC workers and make serious offers at the bargaining table.”
