Detroit — The UAW is proud to stand in support of the 1,400 striking Kellogg workers represented by the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) International Union who walked out on October 5 after the company failed to address worker concerns over wages, health care benefits, overtime and pensions.
“We are truly at a crossroads for the working men and women of this nation. They have kept our economy running throughout this pandemic and are the backbone of our nation and America’s middle class,” said UAW President Ray Curry. “It is time we acknowledge their value and their rights as Americans. We stand with Kellogg workers, just like we stood with Nabisco workers, and just like we’ll continue to stand with America’s workforce whenever wage and benefit inequality is at stake.”
Our economy is at a crossroads. The American worker must not be left behind while corporate profits continue to soar. At the end of the day, workers are the reason for those profits and corporate America would like us to forget that, but we certainly will not.
America’s unions, like the UAW, will continue to remind corporate America of who fuels this economy. Shareholders don’t produce products; workers do.
