DETROIT — The UAW released this statement today in support of President Obama’s nomination of Michael Froman as U.S. Trade Representative:
“We support President Obama’s nomination of Michael Froman as U.S. Trade Representative to replace Ron Kirk, who stepped down in February after serving in the post throughout the president’s first term.
“As a seasoned international negotiator, Michael Forman brings the experience of leading preparations for more than a dozen international economic summits and overseeing the administration’s economic engagement in with China, India, Brazil, Russia, Japan and the European Union and the development of economic strategies for the Middle East and Africa.
“Under the leadership of this respected international economic diplomat, we look forward to more engagement on trade policies that re-invigorate our manufacturing base, eliminate unbalanced trade and create good, quality jobs for America’s working families.”
