Lula’s freedom today is a victory for democratic principles and the right to legal due process as affirmed by Brazil’s Supreme Court. This is a victory for the people of Brazil who have been under attack by a right-wing administration that wants to erode the rights and dignity of workers, indigenous peoples, Afro-Brazilians and the LGBTQ community.
The UAW stands with our trade unionist brother Lula and the workers of Brazil who are fighting for labor rights, defending democracy and pursuing a civilized discourse on the challenges that they face.
We thank the thousands of UAW members who sent personal notes to Lula during his unjust detainment. A luta continua!
