On September 12, Ray Curry was honored with a National Leadership Award by the National Newspaper Publishers Association, the trade organization representing African American-owned media companies. The annual awards honor courageous leadership and honorees are asked to reflect on the importance of the Black Press in America. Curry spoke about the connection between organized labor and the fight for civil rights, as well as the UAW’s continued commitment to racial equality.
