UAW members at Bridon American in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, who are represented by UAW Local 1612, Region 9, today ratified a new three-year agreement.
The ratification, won by a vote of 95 percent in favor of the new contract, came one day after reaching a tentative agreement and ending a two-week work stoppage with Bridon American.
This agreement preserved the current health care coverage with no changes, provided general wage increases in each year of the agreement, and gives members a signing bonus. The contract also includes increased life insurance coverage, increased safety glass allowance, increased employer match on their 401(k) plans, increases in short-term disability, double-time pay for time worked on a holiday, as well as many other economic and non-economic gains. The agreement covers 175 UAW members.
“It was the strength and solidarity of the membership standing with the local and the International Union that made this a great victory for all members and their families,” said Region 9 Director, Terry Dittes.
“The union looks forward to working with Bridon to secure these good-paying manufacturing jobs in Wilkes Barre, on behalf of the members, their families and the community,” said Dittes.
Bridon American is a leading specialist in the manufacturing of high quality steel wire and rope solutions for cranes, oil fields, as well as surface and underground mining projects. It has two locations, Hanover Township and Pittston, Pennsylvania. It is one of many companies represented by the amalgamated local.
