“At UAW-Ford we are fully committed to truly serving the communities where our members live and work,” said UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles, who directs the union’s Ford Department. “It is our ability to execute programs like this that show why unions and collective bargaining or so important to this country. We aren’t simply organizations that provide jobs; we become entrenched in our local communities and help to make a way for those who may otherwise not be able.”
The food boxes will be assembled by 600 volunteers from UAW-Ford and youth from local area high schools who have received support from UAW-Ford, including Detroit Cass Tech High, Detroit Loyola and Highland Park Renaissance Academy.
Nationally, UAW-Ford will be distributing 17,000 boxes of food to 27 different communities across the country. For more information, call (313) 392-7180.
