Region 4 Veterans Conference Report

Delegates celebrated the 35th Anniversary of the Region 4 Veterans Conference at the Pat Greathouse Center from May 18-21, 2023. Attendees participated in workshops and meetings, listened to a number of speakers, and enjoyed fellowship with one another during the four day event. The Conference convened on Friday morning with the Posting of Colors by the Minnesota Color Guard. Region 4 Veterans Council Chair Horace Hubbard Jr. then opened the Conference by welcoming all in attendance. Running for veterans

Western New York UAW Members Host Race for Vets UAW members in Western New York state continued their efforts to support area veterans’ organizations with the 17th Annual Veterans’ Appreciation 5k Run on Nov. 5. The run, which raised over $15,000 for veterans’ causes, was organized by the UAW Region 9 Western New York Veterans Committee and held at UAW Local 686 in Lockport, New York. Committee Chairman Guy Newell, president of UAW Local 774 in Tonawanda, New York, said there were 140 runners from all over, including Canada. UAW donates passenger van to help veterans in Western New York get to their medical appointments

AMHERST, New York — Veterans in Western New York sometimes have difficulty getting to their medical appointments. Their journeys are now made a little easier with today’s donation of a 12-passenger van from the UAW Western New York Region 9 Veterans Committee. The keys to the Ford Transit van were officially handed over from UAW Western New York Veterans Committee Chairman Guy Newell to administrators at the nearby Bath Veterans Administration Medical Center. “Our members are very caring and very giving at all of our plants,” Newell said as government license plates were being installed on the van, which has ... UAW Region 9 veterans group to donate van to aid those who have served our country

AMHERST, New York – The UAW Western New York Region 9 Veterans Committee will donate a van to a local Veterans Administration hospital so those who have served our nation can get to their medical appointments. The donation of the12-passenger Ford Transit van to the Bath (New York) Veterans Administration Medical Center will take place Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. at UAW Region 9, 35 George Karl Blvd, Amherst, New York. Serving those who have served: UAW-Ford program teaches veterans how to weld

Some are homeless. Others are missing limbs or facing other serious issues as a result of their service in war-torn places such as Afghanistan and Iraq. But all of the participants in the UAW-Ford Veterans Welding Class have the same desire to improve their lives by learning a trade. Vets participating in the program at the UAW-Ford TTC speak with their instructor. UAW Veterans Hold Carnival for Children of Veterans

Since 1925, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) has helped veterans and their families with short and long-term housing. From children who need foster care because their parents died in a war to veterans who have become homeless, the VFW maintains houses throughout the country to give aid to our military long after service. In 2006, UAW members joined with them and built the Steven P. Yokich duplex in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, to house veteran families. UAW member support for those who served the nation didn’t stop there.
