The UAW has in the past and will continue to oppose trade agreements that lack labor and environmental standards, because they encourage a race to the bottom and hurt all workers across the globe. I want to make clear as I did ... Read more

UAW President Williams’ Statement on the UAW’s 80th Anniversary

Eight decades ago, autoworkers gathered at a downtown Detroit hotel because they were tired of being underpaid, overworked and unnecessarily exposed to hazards on the job. They understood that the only way to improve their lives was to band together if they wanted change. Today, on the 80th anniversary of the UAW’s founding convention, we salute the spirit of solidarity that brought those autoworkers together. Let us always remember that our founders took huge risks, personally, financially, even physically to establish our union. “For 80 years UAW members, joined together, have driven our nation to the greatest middle-class economy in ... UAW President Dennis Williams’ Statement on the Passage of Fast Track in the House

UAW President, Dennis Williams Today Congress turned their backs on the American people and voted to not do their job. Instead, they surrendered their constitutional authority to the executive branch. With this terrible “Fast Track” bill, for the next six years, all free trade agreements will be voted on in Congress without meaningful debate. Clearly, this bill is designed to lead to the passage of trade treaties we cannot see or make changes to, but we will live under for decades to come. This is not how our democracy is supposed to work. Providing elected leaders an up or down ... Read more
