National Strike – Day 19 Dear Union Brothers and Sisters: Since the last update, we have made good progress regarding the issues of health care and a path for temporary employees becoming seniority members. We still have several of your proposals outstanding and unsettled like wages, job security, skilled trades and pension. The staff and your elected Bargaining Committee from both hourly and salary have been working long hours and aggressively addressing your needs. We will continue to work over the weekend in an attempt to reach a Tentative Agreement on behalf of you and your families. Thank you for ...

RE: National Strike – Day 16 Dear Union Brothers and Sisters: Last night, Monday, September 30, 2019, GM passed a comprehensive proposal at 9:40 pm across the bargaining table. This proposal that the Company provided to us on day 15 of the strike did not satisfy your contract demands or needs. There were many areas that came up short like health care, wages, temporary employees, skilled trades and job security to name a few. Additionally, concessionary proposals still remain in the company’s proposals as of late last night. We have responded today with a counterproposal and are awaiting GM’s next proposal ...

Dear Union Brothers and Sisters: All unsettled proposals are now at the Main Table and have been presented to General Motors, and we are awaiting their response. We will continue to bargain this contract until your Bargaining Committee is satisfied that we have achieved an Agreement that properly addresses our Members’ concerns. Dear Union Brothers and Sisters: Today we enter the 4th day of our National Strike with General Motors. I can report to you that as of today, some progress has been made, but there are still many of our Memberships’ issues that remain unresolved. Your elected Bargaining Committee and the UAW International Staff have been working long hours each day for weeks negotiating on our Members’ behalf. UAW is Committed to Securing the Best Possible Wages, Job Security, and Access to Affordable Healthcare for Members RELEASES LETTER TO MEMBERS Detroit — UAW Vice President Terry Dittes released a letter this evening to members announcing that the UAW will not extend the current 2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement, but will work without a contract until a course of action is decided by the UAW International Executive Board and the UAW-GM National Council. “While we are fighting for better wages, affordable quality health care, and job security, GM refuses to put hard-working Americans ahead of their record profits of $35 ...

“The over $150 million investment in Flint rewards GM’s production and skilled trades workers for the quality Full-Size Pickups they produce. Under the direction of Director Gerald Kariem of UAW Region 1D, Flint GM workers in the past year have secured 1,000 additional jobs which reflect the hard work of UAW members as they build heavy duty Chevy and GMC pickup trucks.”
While the UAW welcomes the $700 million in Ohio investment outside of Lordstown, Ohio, it is not forgotten that UAW members, their families and citizens in the Mahoning Valley invested in General Motors in its darkest days to allow for the record profits that GM is making in recent years. The people of the Mahoning Valley deserve a solid, secure job investment that no start-up, dependent on federal contracts, can bring to the Valley. UAW members and the community deserve a GM product investment at Lordstown.
In response to General Motors’ announcement today, the UAW’s position is unequivocal: General Motors should assign a product to the Lordstown facility and continue operating it. A federal lawsuit filed by the UAW over the closing of the Lordstown, Baltimore and Warren facilities is still pending, and the UAW will continue its effort to protect the contractual rights of its members at these locations. The parties regularly discuss product placement issues during National Negotiations which will begin in July of this year. We will monitor this situation as it develops to determine what course of action will most benefit UAW-represented ...

“UAW members in Bowling Green fully support the investment by GM at the Bowling Green Assembly. Members from UAW Local 2164 are proud to build the iconic Chevrolet Corvette and will be adding a full shift of production and over 400 new bargaining unit jobs through this investment. We hope to see more of this in the future from GM, which is good for our members, their families, the community, and all of America”.
“The great workforce at Lake Orion understands that today’s announcement will provide over 400 new jobs for a General Motors product of the future built by UAW Local 5960 members for years to come right here in Michigan. Today’s GM commitment of $300 million to build this electric vehicle, with our UAW members, is a good start on GM’s investment toward keeping future manufacturing jobs here in America.”
