Contract Ratified at Sakthi Automotive

UPDATE 6/27/16 9:00 AM: On Sunday June 26th 2016, Sakthi  Automotive workers ratified their first collective bargaining agreement.  Once the workers came in to Local 600 and reviewed the language that included the real meaningful gains they had been fighting for, 100 % of the workers voted to pass the agreement.  The UAW would like to welcome our new brothers and sisters to our great Union. Impending Strike at Sakthi Automotive

UPDATE 6/24/14 12:30 PM: Late Thursday night, Sakthi Automotive and the UAW reached a tentative agreement. Sakthi Automotive workers are scheduled to vote on the agreement Sunday, June 26,  at noon and at 4 p.m. at UAW Local 600 in Dearborn, Michigan. The strike has been canceled. Spain: thousands join march against trade unionist trial

An estimated 5,000 people braved the wind and rain on a three-hour march in Madrid on 9 February to protest against the trial of eight trade unionists facing a total 66 years in prison for going on strike. The eight workers, who belong to IndustriALL Global Union affiliates, CC.OO de Industria and MCA-UGT, were charged after joining a picket at the gates of Airbus in Getafe, in the Madrid suburbs, as part of a general strike on 29 September 2010. 78 years ago today, 400 black women stood up for their rights … and won!

May 6, 1937, 400 black female tobacco stemmers spontaneously went on strike at I.N. Vaughan in Richmond, Virginia. The women often worked more than 80 hours a week for a total of $3. They toiled in a cramped factory with tobacco dust coating the air and their lungs. With the help of the Southern Negro Youth Congress and a show of solidarity from white female workers in the CIO’s Clothing and Textile Workers Union who walked the picket lines with them, they won their battle.
