On Monday, Region 1A held their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Action. Each year, Region 1A Director Rory Gamble partners with radio host Mildred Gaddis to raise money and collect donations for homeless members of the community. Volunteers travel around Detroit providing cold-weather essentials to those in need while honoring the memory of Dr. King.
Next Monday, radio host Mildred Gaddis and Region 1A Director Rory L. Gamble will host their annual sleeping bag drive to help homeless members of the community. They’re accepting donations of sleeping bags, socks, blankets, and other cold weather items. They’re also looking for volunteers to help distribute the items. Sleeping Bag Drive – MLK Day

Detroit – As a day of service on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, UAW Region 1A Director Gamble and members from the region will take it to the streets and to the area’s homeless population. Many homeless Detroiters won’t go to shelters so deliveries will be made directly to the people where they live. The sleeping bags are designed to handle temperatures as low as 17 degrees below zero. UAW members will deliver 300 sleeping bags to several Metropolitan Detroit areas following the kickoff at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen, 4860 15th St. in Detroit. The region is recruiting volunteers ... Three organizations partnered to provide clothing, gifts, and food for 45 metropolitan Detroit families in need during this holiday season. On Thursday, Dec. 18, UAW Region 1A Director Rory Gamble hosted two community organizations, Michigan Welfare Rights and the Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Through his charity, Giving Is Very Extra Special (G.I.V.E.S.), toys, clothing, and food were provided to more than 43 families caring for 65 children. This is the sixth year G.I.V.E.S. has assisted underprivileged children and their families throughout the year and during the holidays. The families were chosen by the community organizations ...
