97% OF UAW’S BIG THREE MEMBERS VOTE YES TO AUTHORIZE STRIKE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UAW President Shawn Fain announced today that the union’s strike authorization vote passed with near universal approval from the 150,000 union workers at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis. Final votes are still being tabulated, but the current combined average across the Big Three was 97% in favor of strike authorization. The vote does not guarantee a strike will be called, only that the union has the right to call a strike if the Big Three refuse to reach a fair deal. “Our union’s membership is clearly fed up with living paycheck-to-paycheck while the corporate elite and billionaire ... To see all the updates, go to the UAW-Stellantis bargaining Facebook group here. We are also linking to the posts here at the UAW-Stellantis webpage. Stay tuned for more updates.   Update from Vice President Boyer: The Union’s position is “No Concessions.” As we have been reviewing the company’s proposals, it is apparent that they were drafted in an attempt to negatively respond to each of the Union’s demands, after the fact. The proposals presented by the company are nothing more than concessionary ... Read more

UAW STATEMENT ON STELLANTIS REPORTING RECORD PROFITS FOR THE FIRST HALF OF 2023

This morning, Stellantis reported record profits for the first half of 2023, posting $12.1 billion (10.9 billion euros) in net profit. That’s a 37 percent increase over last year. Only 33 percent of Stellantis’ global workforce is in North America, yet workers here made the bulk of the automaker’s operating income: 57 percent of the automaker’s $15.7 billion (14.1 billion euros) in operating income was made in North America. The 150,000 UAW members at Stellantis, Ford and General Motors began negotiations for a new contract with the three automakers this month. Altogether, the Big Three companies made a quarter-trillion dollars ... Read more

The Members Handshake

Today was a historic day for our union. This morning, we inaugurated a new UAW tradition: the Members Handshake. Instead of kicking off Big Three negotiations with a dog and pony show shaking hands with CEOs, we’re putting the membership first. Our UAW leadership went directly to the plant gates at Stellantis’s Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, GM’s Factory ZERO, and Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant to shake members’ hands and take their message to the bargaining table. Leadership heard from members about what they want to see change at the Big Three. They also asked members what they are willing to do to ... Read more

NEW UAW VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS BIG 3’s MASSIVE PROFITS, MAKES CLEAR THEY CAN EASILY AFFORD UNION’S CONTRACT DEMANDS

In a new video, the UAW shows the Big Three car companies made nearly $250 billion in profits over the last decade and can easily afford the union’s demands in upcoming contract negotiations. UAW President Shawn Fain said: “The Big Three have collectively amassed so much money in North American profits over the last ten years, they could have bought every NBA team, every MLB team, and every NHL team, and they would still have 50 billion dollars left over.” The video also highlights the bloated salaries Big Three CEOs paid themselves in 2022: GM CEO Mary Barra, $29 million ... Back in the Fight: Our Generation’s Defining Moment at the Big Three

This week, top officers of the UAW participated in the union’s first-ever Unionwide Town Hall, themed “Back in the Fight: Our Generation’s Defining Moment at the Big Three.” The National Town Hall is a new addition to the UAW constitution, passed by delegates at the 2022 Constitutional Convention, “to ensure an open flow of information and better communication with the UAW’s active and retired membership.” President Shawn Fain laid out the union’s position towards the Detroit automakers. “These companies have been extraordinarily profitable, and our members have created incredible value for these companies during some really hard, and dangerous years,” Fain ... UAW Statement on Job Cuts at Stellantis

“Stellantis’ push to cut thousands of jobs while raking in billions in profits is disgusting,” said UAW President Shawn Fain. “This is a slap in the face to our members, their families, their communities, and the American people who saved this company 15 years ago. Even now, politicians and taxpayers are bankrolling the electric vehicle transition, and this is the thanks the working class gets. Shame on Stellantis.” UAW Vice President Rich Boyer said “Our union is working around the clock to get justice for the members impacted by these job cuts. We look forward to Stellantis doing the right ... Read more

Day 2 of Special Bargaining Convention Unites Delegates’ Vision for the Union’s Bargaining Strategy

The second day of the Special Bargaining Convention was a busy one for those in attendance. Wages, profit-sharing, healthcare, work schedules, health and safety, organizing, higher education, and support for veterans were among the issues discussed and debated by delegates on the Convention floor, as they continued to fine-tune their vision for the union’s bargaining strategy moving forward. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer addressed the delegates, hailing the UAW for its support of the state’s recent repeal of so-called “right to work.” “We have shown the world that here in Michigan we have each others’ backs,” Whitmer said to a cheering ... Statement of UAW on Idling of Stellantis Belvidere Plant on February 28

Last December, Stellantis NV announced its decision to idle the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois on February 28, 2023, by refusing to put a new product into the award-winning plant. “UAW Local 1268 members at Belvidere have proudly built vehicles for Chrysler, then FCA and now Stellantis since 1965. They have delivered quality and productivity for the corporation for generations,” says UAW President Ray Curry. “Stellantis’ ill-advised decision will have negative repercussions throughout the region and supplier network.  It will disrupt lives, uproot families, and leave communities struggling to find economic drivers to pay for schools, roads and other services.” “It ... Statement from UAW Vice President and Director of National Stellantis Department Rich Boyer on 2022 Profit Sharing Announcement

Detroit – Our union was successful in negotiating an enhanced profit-sharing formula with Stellantis in 2019.  The new formula more accurately reflects the contributions of UAW members to the success of Stellantis. Today’s announcement that eligible UAW-Stellantis members will receive a record average profit-sharing amount of $14,760 confirms that the skill, dedication, and hard work of UAW members are a critical part of the success of Mopar, Chrysler, Jeep, RAM, Wagoneer and Dodge. The financial strength of Stellantis primarily relies on the company’s UAW workforce as evidenced by its financial report. Our members are the backbone of this company. We ... Read more
