Kokomo Union Members Support Students

The UAW isn’t only about collective bargaining and giving a voice to workers. It’s also about supporting local communities like UAW locals in Kokomo did when they donated supplies to kids throughout Howard County: On Feb. 2, UAW 1302 members made their rounds at the area schools, dropping off supplies. The union, headed up by Weed Widup, started at Taylor Elementary School. Statement from UAW Region 2-B Director Rich Rankin on Dana Recognition

Several months ago, workers at Dana Toledo reached out to the UAW for representation. During the last few weeks, a majority of the workers authorized the UAW to represent them in collective bargaining with the Company. Today Dana agreed to follow the parties’ agreement toward recognition of the UAW as the exclusive bargaining representative of the workers. The parties will then begin contract negotiations. Local 12 Members Protest Layoffs at Auto Show

This weekend, 300 UAW members and allies protested outside the North American International Auto Show in support of members being laid off by Fiat Chrysler. The workers, members of Local 12 in Toledo, Ohio, are drivers and mechanics who service and deliver parts to Chrysler plants. Their jobs will be replaced by non-union contractors. Bruce Baumhower, President of Local 12 said, “The company has decided to send that work out to a non-union company, without bargaining it with us. We’ve had two meetings with the company on this. Rankin elected Director of UAW Region 2B Indiana and Ohio

UAW Region 2B director to retire May 31

(Maumee, Ohio) – UAW Region 2B Director Ken Lortz announced his retirement effective May 31. Lortz, a member of the UAW International Executive Board, has served as Region 2B director since April 2009 when he succeeded Lloyd Mahaffey. He was subsequently re-elected at UAW constitutional conventions in June 2010 and 2014. During his tenure, the UAW added Indiana to Region 2B and went through expansive growth during the post-recession auto recovery. Fuyao workers and public officials to hold town hall April 30 for fair union election and workplace safety
