Attention UAW Local 6000 Members: You may have read in the news media of the proposed civil service rule changes that would impact state employees. UAW International is working closely with UAW Local 6000 staff to access the proposal and respond. UAW Local 6000 is strongly opposed to the rule changes, which will negatively affect our freedom to collectively bargain the terms and conditions of our workplace. Jeremiah Lane, Parking Enforcement Officer in Lansing, MI Since 2015, Jeremiah Lane has been a parking enforcement officer in Lansing, Michigan.  He’s also a UAW member who, like workers everywhere, needs protection in the workplace. “You get used to the name Meter Maid very quickly,” said Lane. “Every curse word you could imagine I heard in my first week.  I’ve had bottles thrown at me, I’ve been spit at. Statement from UAW Region 1D Director Gerald Kariem on Central Michigan University’s Announced Layoffs

“For every Central Michigan University worker who loses their job to cheap outsourcing there is a family and a community that suffers. This is not the way Michigan can and should be – ignoring the dignity of the work of so many in the trenches. Instead of making hard decisions about controlling spending and administrative salaries, CMU has opted to outsource the jobs of the office professionals who make the university run so smoothly behind the scenes. It’s easy to avoid tough decisions on the backs of hard-working families. CMU should reconsider this rash decision.”

GM, UAW commit $3 million to United Way of Genesee County

 Five-year grant to fund health and education programs for Flint children FLINT, Mich. (Feb. 9, 2016) – The United Way of Genesee County today announced a joint effort made by General Motors and the United Auto Workers (UAW) to donate $3 million to support the increased health and education needs for the children of Flint who have been impacted by lead-contaminated water. UAW Members Send Clean Drinking Water to Flint Residents In Need

Do you or your local want to help Flint residents? Contact the UAW’s Labor Liaison with the United Way, Teresa McGinnis, at uawlaborliaison@unitedwaygenesee.org FLINT, MI — Members of the UAW from around the state will be donating truckloads of water to Flint residents affected by the city’s water emergency. UAW locals from around the state have contacted the Flint Assembly UAW Local 598 to ask how they could help residents.
