NWU Reaches Final Settlement Agreement with Ebony and CVG

CHICAGO, lL – The National Writers Union has reached a final settlement agreement with the Ebony Media Organization and CVG Group LLC (which acquired Ebony magazine in 2016), over the magazine’s failure to pay freelance writers, editors and designers for contracted and published work. This settlement covers 45 freelancers who are collectively owed $80,000  by the new owners of the iconic magazine. Six writers who were part of the original group non-payment grievance were paid-out about $8,000 before this settlement. The National Writers Union Files Lawsuit On Behalf of Ebony Freelancers

The National Writers Union/UAW Local 1981 filed a lawsuit against Ebony Media Operations and its parent company, Clear View Group, LLC., for unpaid wages on behalf of dozens of freelance writers collectively owed more than $70,000. The case was filed in Cook County, Illinois. The lawsuit names 39 unpaid writers, editors and other creatives Ebony failed to compensate for contributions to its print or web publications. Yusef Salaam’s Inspiring Speech to UAW Chaplains

Three hundred members of the UAW Chaplaincy Program recently gathered for the 29th annual conference on June 5 in Onaway, MI. Elder Herb Taylor of Region 5 (Kansas City, KS) presided as international leader of the group. The chaplains serve in a volunteer capacity and are mainly employed at various UAW work sites in the US as electricians, pipe fitters, custodians and the like. They engage employees inside and outside the work place through one-on-one dialogue, phone calls, home visits and more, counseling them as they face various life challenges.
