In our democracy, we, the American people, vote to elect our leaders. The people, not politicians, have the final say in deciding who will represent us. We cannot afford to take this fundamental right lightly. At the same time, it can be hard to make an informed choice as we are bombarded with attack ads and widespread misinformation everywhere we turn. Fortunately, candidate records and voting histories can be utilized to gain a better understanding of how candidates intend to govern if elected. In Congress, the agenda is determined by the party in power. Since January 2021 (117th Congress), Democrats ...

Today’s historic vote in the House of Representatives comes on the heels of the Senate’s passage last Sunday. The UAW commends President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for their leadership and perseverance throughout this lengthy process as it could not have happened without them. We are thankful to all members of Congress who voted in favor of this historic legislation. Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act is, in no small part, the result of years of hard work and persistence by our members in both Washington, D.C. and their home districts. Any union ...

On August 9th, I had the honor of attending the White House signing ceremony for the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. The new law signed by President Biden invests $52 billion to bolster U.S. semiconductor production with two billion being prioritized for vehicle, defense, and parts manufacturing. It also puts us in a position to ensure we have the resources needed to advance scientific research which are essential to creating the jobs of the future in the United States and improving our quality of life. Semiconductors are a critical component of products that run on electricity. The UAW began ...

Detroit – “Under President Biden’s leadership, we have seen unprecedented job growth and rising wages. The President has directly confronted the coronavirus pandemic that has taken lives of almost nine hundred and fifty thousand of our fellow citizens. Through his leadership, we are now better protected, and the number of infections is declining. Of course, challenges remain and there is more work to do. Congress must act on the President’s priorities. For starters, the Senate should pass the PRO Act and Confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the highest court in the land. Together with the Biden Administration, we are working ...

Detroit – “Today’s historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court gives Americans a jurist with broad experience across the legal profession who has a strong understanding of the everyday lives of working families. Judge Jackson played a key role in the U.S. Sentencing Commission on criminal justice reform and showed a keen understanding of the implications of the law on everyday lives. She has been a private Attorney and a public defender and is recognized as one of the bright legal minds of our generation. It matters a great deal who serves on the ...

Detroit — “President Joe Biden and EPA Administrator Michael Regan have created a win-win for UAW members, the U.S. manufacturing workforce and our environment by putting into place nationwide 2023 to 2026 Model Year (MY) light-duty emission regulations that are good for our air quality, preserve and grow both American jobs and our economy. History has demonstrated that strong standards based on input from stakeholders that include American workers at the table can be an opportunity for both job retention, job creation and environmental protections. Well thought out regulations, such as the Biden Administration’s emission rules today, will promote long-term ...

Collective bargaining is an essential tool to protect the rights of workers that should be free from threats and intimidation from employers. That’s why I am deeply troubled by reports of Kellogg’s plans to permanently replace striking workers from the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International during their ongoing collective bargaining negotiations. Permanently replacing striking workers is an existential attack on the union and its members’ jobs and livelihoods. I have long opposed permanent striker replacements and I strongly support legislation that would ban that practice. And such action undermines the critical role collective bargaining plays in providing ...

Detroit – “President Biden rightly understands that we can address carbon emissions and turn it into an economic opportunity to preserve and create good union paying jobs of the future through federal fleet conversion and reducing the federal government’s carbon footprint. The challenge we face is to make sure these produce jobs of the future that continue to support and build America’s middle class. Today’s Executive Order by President Biden seizes the opportunity to preserve, create and increase the opportunity for good union jobs for decades to come.”
Detroit – “House Democrats stood up for American union jobs and American families today by passing the Build Back Better Act. President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, and Majority Leader Schumer have worked hard to make meaningful real-life investments in American families. Make no mistake, this bill stands to benefit all UAW members and retirees, regardless of sector, for years to come. Universal preschool, lower prescription drug costs, support for child and elder care, ensuring the extremely wealthy pay more of their share, and better tools to hold union busters accountable all represent important wins for all workers. For example, this job creating ...
