On behalf of the entire UAW International Executive Board, I send you best wishes for the Holiday Season and a Prosperous New Year. This has been a very busy year for our union. Our members led the largest strike in the history of higher education. We held the line during the mid-terms and built a labor-supportive majority in the Senate. We had our first direct election of UAW officers which will continue with a run-off next year (ballots start to be mailed January 12). We’ve organized thousands of new members and bargained multiple contracts – including first contracts. While there was ...

My Sisters and Brothers, I know I have said this many times in the past 12 months, but I can’t think of anything that sums up more about what 2020 has shown us and it is this: I am so proud of each and every one of you and of this union for the strength, the courage, the sacrifice and the sheer will to stand together against the unimaginable hardships that 2020 threw at us all. Every year, as I think about the Thanksgiving holiday, I always try to concentrate on the things that we as a union, and our sisters and brothers in solidarity everywhere, have to be thankful for. And, as always, there is much to be thankful for. But what to say about 2020? A year that has brought so much sickness with COVID-19, so much social upheaval and unrest and a presidential election that has only underscored the deep divides in how our nation is to go forward. Put it this way, no one I know signed up for 2020. This year ...

The first Sunday in August is National Sisters Day, and your opportunity to show your appreciation for that unique bond only sisters can understand. What better way to celebrate than joining with your fellow union sisters in the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW)? On March 24, 1974, over 3,000 determined labor union women and supportive feminists from across the United States convened in Chicago to create the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW). The UAW was a founding supporter of CLUW, which elected then-UAW Vice President Olga Madar as its first president. CLUW’s first convention established four goals that ...

National Friendship day encourages people from across the globe to connect with friends. This is the day to make a new friend or connect with an old friend. For UAW members and their families, the community is as much of a friend as any other. And that is reflected by the connections and lives impacted by UAW members serving their communities. Here’s a look back at some of our member stories as they’ve given back to the community: UAW-Ford Partnership Provides 120 Million Masks Posted: April 8, 2021 Last year, the UAW and Ford partnered to combat the shortage of ...

Three organizations partnered to provide clothing, gifts, and food for 45 metropolitan Detroit families in need during this holiday season. On Thursday, Dec. 18, UAW Region 1A Director Rory Gamble hosted two community organizations, Michigan Welfare Rights and the Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Through his charity, Giving Is Very Extra Special (G.I.V.E.S.), toys, clothing, and food were provided to more than 43 families caring for 65 children. This is the sixth year G.I.V.E.S. has assisted underprivileged children and their families throughout the year and during the holidays. The families were chosen by the community organizations ...
