Statement of President Ray Curry on General Motors Announcement of Investments in UAW Facilities

Today, General Motors announced $918 million in investments at four UAW facilities to support truck production and future electric vehicle (EV) production.   Our union celebrates the announcement of these new investments into our GM facilities which will benefit our members at Locals 659 (Flint, Michigan), 362 (Bay City, MI), 211 (Defiance, OH) and 1097 (Rochester, NY).  The skill and dedication of UAW members are a key part of GM’s success, and this investment recognizes that our members will remain a vital part of GM’s future.

GM Investment in Toledo Propulsion Reflects Contributions of UAW Members

General Motors announced on Friday that it will invest $760 million at Toledo, Ohio propulsion manufacturing operations to prepare the facility for production of drive units that will be used in future GM Ultium-based battery electric trucks including the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV and GMC HUMMER EVs. UAW President Ray Curry Writes Congressional Letter Urging Passage of the Susan Muffley Act to Restore the Pensions of Salaried Delphi Employees

Detroit – “Congress has an opportunity to restore full pension benefits to over 20,000 salaried Delphi employees. These hard working coworkers of UAW members suffered significant losses to their earned benefits, with some losing as much as 70% of their benefits.  We strongly urge Congress to pass this legislation that would pay the difference between the pension benefits earned by Delphi salaried retirees and what they received following the GM bankruptcy in 2009. It is long overdue.”
