Today through tomorrow, Columbia University graduate workers will vote on forming their union. Union organizers got a big boost today when none other than U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders wrote a letter encouraging fellow graduate workers to come together, participate in the vote and join the UAW. Grad Workers Talk NLRB Ruling on Brian Lehrer Show

In August, the National Labor Relations Board ruled that graduate workers at private institutions have the right to unionize. The highly anticipated ruling was a victory, won with UAW support, for graduate workers at Columbia University and The New School, restoring union rights for teaching and research assistants there. Graduate workers, who have been organizing for the past year, welcome recognition of needed changes from the Provost, Dean of Engineering NEW YORK – In a rare email to Ph.D. candidates, Columbia University Provost John H.
