STATEMENT OF UAW PRESIDENT RAY CURRY ON THE FINDINGS OF THE WHITE HOUSE TASK FORCE ON WORKER ORGANIZING AND EMPOWERMENT
Detroit – “President Biden’s White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment recognized today a fundamental reality for working families across the United States – that we need to remove roadblocks to the ability to bargain the terms and conditions in their workplaces.
Through comprehensive findings the Biden Administration points out that although 68% of all Americans approve of labor unions, there has been a steady erosion of the ability to join a union for decades as anti-worker policies and judicial decisions erode the ability to join a union. We can fix this problem through executive actions and Congressional action and we must build on our nation’s middle class economy. Congress can make immediate inroads for working families through passage of the PRO Act which was passed by the House of Representatives over 10 months ago and is under consideration in the United States Senate.
It is clear is that workers in the United States want a voice in their workplace. American’s want to have a say in their health and safety on the job, their salary and benefits and their share of the immense profit that is coalescing among an increasing few of the wealthiest in our nation.
Today’s study is a wake-up call that working families want a strong voice. And we are grateful to the Biden Administration for stepping forward and making these common sense policy proposals that will grow our nation’s middle class.”
