UAW Vice President Estrada to speak at March 9 International Women’s Day event

DETROIT – The UAW Women’s Department and the Boggs Center to Nurture Community Leadership, along with local and state community organizations and leaders, will celebrate International Women’s Day in the annual “Women Creating Caring Communities: Listen to Women for a Change!” program on March 9.

The event aims to elevate labor and community collaboration, as well as create a common vision to facilitate neighborhood work and community projects.

Special guest speakers are UAW Vice President Cindy Estrada, who directs the union’s Women’s Department, and philosopher-activist Grace Lee Boggs. Morning and afternoon workshops will focus on enhancing participants’ ability to create communities of compassion.

In addition, various organizations will be on hand to answer questions from potential volunteers to assist in community and neighborhood building.

All are invited to attend this free celebration and learning experience. Doors open at 9 a.m., and the program begins at 10 a.m. A Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
