In our own words
Bob Stuglin

Bob Stuglin
President
UAW Local 1264
Sterling Heights, Mich.

"I got to meet Sen. Obama and talk with him (at the Chrysler Sterling Stamping Plant visit in May), and I feel his theme of change is what we need right now. I think he is going to be a great president and will be good for the country. He will help get this country out of the catastrophe we've had the last eight years with George W. Bush."

"My first choice was Hillary, and I was disappointed she didn't get the support she needed. But now that Obama is the nominee, we'll put our support behind him. ... I think Obama has a vision of helping all people, and hopefully he'll be able to focus on manufacturing jobs and creating new jobs."

"The GOP can't divide us with nonissues any more, but we have a lot of educating (of our members) to do between now and November."

Recording secretary

"I'm a longtime Obama supporter. I know he's going to win. He'd better win for all our sakes because frankly if you want to survive as a middle-class citizen, we need to have a president who acknowledges that we exist."

Nicky Twine
Chair
UAW Local 2069
Dublin, Va.

"I think we have to look at the economy and the direction we're currently going in and ask ourselves if someone new can step into this role and steer us back in the right direction and put us back on the right path. I'd have to say the answer is yes. Obama's going to have a fresh look on how to get these things done for our country."

Bob Stuglin

Kathy Jones
UAW Local 624 retiree
Syracuse, N.Y.

"McCain, he really doesn"t impress me. He would be another term of Bush; we've had enough of that. We need someone in the White House who has a lot of the same desires we have, to make this country a better place for the working class and the poor. We'll be doing phone banks, calling our members. I really want to get into this campaign and push Obama."
