Solidarity on White Shirt Day

UAW sit-down strikers and former President Owen Bieber mark White Shirt Day on Feb. 11 at Local 599. White Shirt Day commemorates the day Flint, Mich., sit-down strikers and the Women’s Auxiliary Brigade won UAW recognition from General Motors in 1937.

Bieber called on union members to use the power of collective action and union solidarity to fight President Bush’s agenda of crushing unions and privatizing Social Security.

“This fight isn’t simply over the size of a monthly check,” said Bieber. “It’s a fight over what kind of people we are — what kind of America we want.”
