REGION 1
Joseph Peters is elected director
Joseph Peters was elected director of UAW Region 1 on Jan. 20, by acclamation of the delegates in a Region 1 special convention.
Peters, who served as assistant director of Region 1 since November 1999, succeeds Kenneth B. Terry, who retired.
“I feel very privileged to have this job and opportunity to serve our members in these tough times,” said Peters.
“I’m looking forward to working with the executive board, and I’d like to thank President Gettelfinger for his confidence in me.”
Region 1 represents about 100,000 UAW members in southeast Michigan and Ontario,
Canada.
“On behalf of the UAW International Executive Board, I congratulate Joe
on his election – and extend our best wishes to Ken Terry on his retirement,” said
Gettelfinger.
Peters was appointed to the International staff in 1988 by UAW President Owen Bieber after more than 20 years as a member of Local 400, where he was elected to several leadership positions, including bargaining chair and president. He lives in Rochester Hills, Mich., with his wife, Ann. They have four children and five granddaughters.
