Act fast to become a part of the Memorial Walkway at Black Lake
If you've ever been to the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center, you certainly know the natural beauty of the facility in northern Michigan.
There's still time to become a permanent part of that beauty as bricks for a Memorial Walkway honoring Roy, Victor and Walter Reuther are being sold. The walkway eventually will connect the memorial area to the Japanese Bridge. Construction of the first part of the walkway -- the area around the eternal flame at the granite and brass Reuther memorial -- is slated to begin in August.
The bricks are available to active and retired UAW members and others who want to honor the legendary brothers' memories.
"This project will not only add to the natural beauty of the center, but recognizes the legacy of the Reuther brothers for future generations," said Bob Reidt, director of the center. "The response from UAW members has been wonderful."
Those buying a brick can have a short message inscribed on it. Maybe there's someone who had a positive impact in your working life, like a union representative who went the extra mile, or a co-worker who volunteered in the community. Or maybe there's a union activist or family member who followed in the Reuther tradition and taught you that the ballot box and bread box are connected.
Act soon, because the opportunity is limited. If you would like to purchase a Memorial Walkway brick at $100 for active members and $50 for retirees, please complete this order form (2.06 MB) and send it to:
