UAW Family Scholarship Program combines education with relaxation

Try something different for your vacation this summer: Spend an education and relaxation-filled week at the UAW’s Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center in Onaway, Mich.

The Family Scholarship Program is designed to lift your spirits, teaching members what being a union family is all about while providing everyone with vacation memories that won’t wash away, even after you’re far from the shores of Black Lake.

The center opened in 1970 and thousands of UAW families have participated in its summer program. During the day, parents participate in lively discussions and classroom activities designed to help them learn more about their union, unlock ideas to build the union and build new friendships.

Children ages 3 to 11 participate in fun daycare-style programs, including creative arts, swimming, music and games. Ages 12-15 enjoy union involvement workshops, golf, swimming and gym programs, while older children participate in programs designed to prepare them for the working world.

In the evening, there’s plenty of music, sports, games or just a quiet walk in through the beautiful woods.

Aside from the wonderful education, fun and lifelong memories of your family at Black Lake, another great benefit is the cost: The UAW pays for all of the lodging, food and program costs.
