Dick Long, who directs the UAW’s National CAP Program, told delegates that their retired brothers and sisters are doing their part as well. In 2002, the retiree councils requested V-CAP check-off. That first year, they raised $4,000, and donations have increased dramatically since. Last year, UAW retirees contributed $853,000 to the program. The retired workers in attendance received a standing ovation.
