What you drive, drives America
You know it's a fact that what you drive, drives America. But does you neighbor know that? Or your grocer? Or your child's teacher? How about the emergency room nurse or the police officer patrolling your neighborhood?
Lost in a lot of the noise about the bridge loans for domestic automakers is their vast importance to our economy beyond what union autoworkers earn. The Level Field Institute, a non-profit organization that promotes U.S. jobs and investment by comparing how each automaker contributes to our economy, wants to help you get the facts out there and get our economy moving again.
For instance, nearly 300,000 Americans work at automaker assembly lines, stamping plants, research labs and offices throughout the United States. And 3 million more Americans depend on those jobs for their own jobs. In fact, each autoworker supports nine other local jobs, from parts suppliers to local schools, hospitals, police stations and much more.
On its Web site, The Level Field Institute has a tremendous amount of resources to help you make the case to the uniformed: Buy American, union-built vehicles and help drive America back to a strong economy that works for everyone.
