What started out as a foregone conclusion – that Justice David Prosser would keep his seat on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court – is now a dead heat between Prosser and Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg. The election is being closely watched by both political parties and is viewed by most as a referendum on Gov. Scott Walker and his anti-worker agenda. Although the election is technically non-partisan, Walker’s opponents are supporting Kloppenburg, who as of 11:30 this morning led by 235 votes. The narrow margin all but ensures a recount. Whatever the final outcome, the close race represents an enormous victory for Wisconsinites who stood up for their rights against Walker and Republicans’ massive overreach.
Voters in Milwaukee were more decisive in the race for Scott Walker’s old job as Milwaukee County Executive. They soundly rejected the governor’s pick, Republican Jeff Stone, in favor of Democrat Chris Abele. It’s a direct repudiation of the governor and his extreme power grab to strip the rights of hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin workers.
